Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

A ruby colour with black tints, a frank nose that opens with aromas of stewed fruit, candied fruit, notes of toasted wood, a hint of animal, good balance on a wine that is quite fleshy and full, the character is nice with finesse and frankness, the tannins are ripe, and there is a good, frank and straightforward length on finesse.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Château Gruaud Larose

Gruaud Larose has always sought to value the role of man in the conception of its wine. Since its creation in 1725, four families have succeeded each other at the head of Gruaud Larose: the Gruaud & Larose families, the Balguerie and Sarget families, the Cordier family and the Merlaut family. Terroir: The soil is humus, clay, sand and pebbles forgotten by the river. The subsoil is red, yellow or blue clay, then sand and more pebbles, those of the Pyrenean diluvium. Viticulture: Hand-picked grapes Vinification: Harvest reception, double  harvest reception. Weighing of the harvest. Selection by plot in vats (grape variety, terroir, age, etc.).
