Domain and appellation
Domaine Gérard Bertrand
A field of international prestige, Gérard Bertrand contributes to the radiation of the southern vineyards of France, the world's largest wine-growing area. Orbiting the finest terroirs of Languedoc Roussillon, the Gérard Bertrand wines are part of tradition and innovation.
- Terroir: Overlooking the Mediterranean by a hundred meters, the vineyard of Château l'Hospitalet has exceptional climatic conditions. The vines are based on calcareous clay soils of Gargasian, rich in fossils and the Mediterranean red soils of Barremian are formed by the bluish gray compact limestone.
- Vinification: Part of the Syrah is vatted for whole bunches and then vinified in carbonic maceration; whereas the rest and the Mourvèdre are picked and vinified by traditional maceration, from 15 days to three weeks. After running off the tanks and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in new oak barrels for 12 months.
