Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Its garnet color offers a nice bouquet nose of candied fruit, cocoa, licorice, spices and incense. On the palate, this wine is balanced and has a great character and a distinctive and tight length on spice and cocoa.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Domaine Gérard Bertrand

Bought in 1970 by the Bertrand family, Villemajou Estate is located in the hinterland in Boutenac in the Corbières. Orbiting some of the finest terroirs of Languedoc Roussillon, the Gérard Bertrand wines are part of tradition and innovation.
    • Viticulture: The vineyard is mainly planted 130 hectares in Carignan and Syrah with some older plots of over 100 years old. The house seeks to preserve its soils with wine farming practices, that are organic and biodynamic. Labels and certifications AB, Demeter and Terra Vitis reward these practices that respect the environment.

    • Vinification: On the one hand, Carignan and Syrah grapes are vinified in whole carbonic maceration, 10-18 days. On the other hand, Grenache and Mourvèdre are vinified in traditional maceration after destemming, 15 to 20 days. Finally, the wine is put in barrels for a period of 10 to 12 months.
