Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The open, bouquet-filled and distinctive nose expresses itself elegantly with aromas of red fruit gratin, cocoa beans and liquorice sticks, with a hint of young leather adding a touch of complexity.

The velvety attack reveals a fleshy texture, supported by long, rich tannins, controlled tension and a finesse that structures the whole.

The beautiful balance between power and freshness gives the wine a racy character.

The satiny, persistent and distinctive finish unfolds beautiful notes of candied peppers and garrigue, with a hint of sapid bitterness and an elegant nuance of tobacco leaf.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU JOANIN BÉCOT

After the 2000 vintage, Juliette Bécot and her father Gérard Bécot decided to join forces to acquire a new family estate.
It marked a new challenge for Gérard and for Juliette, who was then taking her first steps in this magical and passionate craft.

The days and seasons follow one another, yet each is different and unique.

While exploring the neighbouring appellations of Saint-Émilion, they discovered Château Joanin in Saint-Philippe-d’Aiguille — a property with remarkable potential, both in the quality of its wines and the character of its terroirs.

With the wish to make it distinctly their own, they gave this estate both a first and family name: Joanin Bécot.
