Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Domain and appellation

  • MAISON CASTEL

Originally from the northern Rhône Valley, this almost extinct grape variety flourishes perfectly in the terroirs of the Pays d'Oc. The Mediterranean climate, its sunshine and its dry, stony soils allow it to develop delicate aromas. It produces wines of great quality, both supple and highly perfumed. For its Viognier Grande Réserve, Maison Castel has selected the best plots in three departments of the Pays d'Oc Protected Geographical Indication: the Hérault and the semi-slopes of the Villafranchian terraces, for complexity and depth; the Gard and its clay-gravel soils, whose earliness brings power and richness; and finally, the Aude, a later clay-limestone terroir which brings tension and freshness. Maison Castel observes, analyses and tastes the grapes from each plot almost daily to determine the best harvest date...
