Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Dark brick colour. Nice frank and vinous nose of candied fruits, notes of undergrowth, old leather, hint of burnt horn. Good balance on a full-bodied, robust and fleshy wine. Bouquet of dried fruit, roasted wood and leather. Finishes with slightly dry tannins, without fat.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Château Ferrande

2018, a great vintage in prospect. The vintage was marked by a cool and rainy winter. A long period of rain extended from November to July, punctuated by several episodes of hail, which in some places led to strong phytosanitary pressure, particularly the development of mildew. The situation was then radically reversed with a very hot and sunny, even scorching summer. As the harvest approached, this beautiful situation continued, with low rainfall which allowed the grapes to be harvested without urgency, à la carte, and a contrast between the hot days and cool nights favourable to aromatic and phenolic concentration. A vintage that was not only very qualitative, but also quantitative.
