Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Its dark, dense garnet color offers an open nose with notes of black fruits, burnt wood and a cold tobacco. In the mouth this wine has a fleshy attack, quite vegetal, then, on black fruits and spices. Unctuous, long and persistent finish.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

In 1855, Lagrange was ranked third "cru classé", thanks to the efforts and vision of Count Dûchatel, owner from 1842 to 1874.

Domain and appellation

  • Château Lagrange

Château Lagrange is located on the Saint-Julien appellation. The center of the estate is the highest point of Saint-Julien on a total surface of 157 hectares.

    • Terroir: The 118-hectare vineyard is spread over two gravels of "Gunzian" origin oriented north-south. Sometimes fine and sometimes coarser, these gravels are accompanied either by sand or by ferruginous clay.
    • Viticulture: A high density of plantation, a short size,  and traditional plowing make it possible to produce rich and concentrated grapes. Manual harvesting, as tradition requires, allows the best grapes to be sorted and their integrity to be respected to the vat.
    • Vinification: Vinification is carried out in 92 thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks with a capacity of 66 to 220 hl, with a vatting time of 15 to 20 days. Selection and assembly of the lots to create the Grand vin and the Second wine. The breeding takes place systematically in Bordeaux oak barrels (60% new for the Grand Vin, 25% for the Second, 30% for the White), 21 months for Château Lagrange and 12 months for the Fiefs de Lagrange.
