Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Its dark garnet color offers a pretty nose of black fruit with a wooded point, plum and licorice. The mouth presents a nice balance, of finesse and roundness. It is frank, nervous and has a beautiful envelope with a satin finish and tasty tannins.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

The archives of the Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande mention the existence of a second wine from the nineteenth century.

Domain and appellation

  • Château Pichon Lalande

The origins of this second classified growth go back to the seventeenth century. In 1850, Virginia Pichon, Comtesse de Lalande, inherited, with her two sisters, their father's vineyard and gave a few years later, the name Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. In 2007, the castle was bought by the Champagne house Roederer.
Established in 1973, the Reserve de la Comtesse, second wine of the estate, now represents between 20 and 50% of the total production of the castle.
    • Terroir: The vineyard of 85 hectares, including 11 located in the municipality of Saint-Julien enjoys a terroir consisting of Garonne gravel on clay.

    • Vinification: Stemming from the same soil, the second wine benefits from the same winemaking methods as itts predecessor but with a shorter breeding period.
