Powerful bouquet

With its garnet color, this wine offers you a discreet nose, on roasted black fruits and licorice. On the palate, it presents a velvety and fleshy attack. Powerful and unctuous final.



Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

The fame of the wines of the castle of L'Esparrou was not born yesterday: It is the famous "Guide du voyageur en France" of 1813 which recognizes them already as being part of the best growths of Roussillon.

Domain and appellation

  • Château L'Esparrou

    Marie-Pascale Rendu represents today the fifth generation on this domain which joined Les vignobles Bonfils in the spring of 2012.


    • Terroir: Located on the hill of Esparrou in the municipality of Canet-en-Roussillon, 15 km from Perpignan. The vineyard extends on a hillside of clay and pebbles, close to the pond of Canet, the Mediterranean Sea and the Canigou massif. The tramontane, the wind of Spain and the marine wind sweep this soil which profits from an optimal sunshine.

    • Viticulture: The harvest is manual.

    • Vinification: Vinification in whole grapes for the Carignan (old vines of more than 30 years), harvest destemmed for the Black Grenache and the Syrah. Cold pre-fermentation maceration. Aging: six months in vats and six to twelve months in oak barrels, then aging in bottles in an air-conditioned cellar.
