Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and crisp

Garnet colour with bright red reflections, limpid and brilliant; first nose reduced, to be opened, then notes of black cherry, stone and candied plum, touch of fur and burnt horn; supple, racy attack, long and fat tannins, characters on red fruits, minerality, characteristic animal touch; sapid finish, nice freshness, medium persistence on redcurrant, cocoa and acidic notes.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

Coulanges-la-Vineuse and the villages sharing its destiny (Charentenay, Escolives-Sainte-Camille, Jussy, Migé, Mouffy and Val-de-Mercy) received in 1993 the right to identify their wines within the appellation Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse.

Domain and appellation

  • Bourgogne Coulanges la Vineuse

The estate is located entirely in the Auxerrois vineyard, near the Chablis vineyard, south of Auxerre.

Terroir: The vineyard is part of the south-eastern fringe of the Paris Basin, planted in the outer halo of the Upper Jurassic (Kimmeridgian and Portlandian), sometimes in the base of the Cretaceous.

Viticulture: The vines are cultivated with a concern for quality and respect for the environment, for which several techniques are implemented, such as the recovery of rainwater for treatments, the working of the soil and partial grassing, the reasoned protection against diseases and pests and limited amendments.
