Our oenologists' opinion
Fruity and well-rounded
Purple colour with purple tints. Lovely open and fruity nose of ripe fruit, cherries and crushed strawberries. Beautiful balance on a wine that is enveloped and round, frank, straightforward, the tannins are supple and even silky. Nice crisp wine with a hint of minerality. Well done for the year! Should age well.
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.
Domain and appellation
This Beaujolais Nouveau comes from vines over 40 years old, pruned in gobelet style because of the steep slopes. We are here in the South Beaujolais on the so-called "granitic" massif, a foothill of the Hercynian base of the Massif Central which re-emerged in the Tertiary era. It is on this type of soil, which is very draining, that the Gamay Noir is the most elegant.
Vinification & Maturing : Hand-picked, the grapes were vinified in whole bunches according to the traditional Beaujolais method, over a period of 8 days. Cold decanted but not filtered to preserve all its aromatic richness, it may leave a slight deposit which will not alter its quality.
