Our oenologists' opinion


Its dark brick color offers a nose still dominated by a roasted oak, then notes of candied fruits, cooked prunes and mineral in the finish. On the palate this wine is balanced with a nice character on the fineness, soft and frank.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

To echo the chateau’s circular courtyard, the winery was completely renovated and built in the round. Not only is the result pleasing to the eye, it houses 200 barrels in which Lort wines are matured elegantly and respectfully, to complement the quality of the harvested grapes.

Domain and appellation

  • Château Du Lort

    The Château du Lort, built in the 17th century, commands a superb vineyard whose variety of soils reveals a real wealth. Acquired in 1984 by the Castel family, the estate first experienced several stages of renovation and technical upgrading to ensure good wine conservation.


    • Terroir: The property covers 50 hectares including 22 hectares of vineyards on clay-limestone soils, sandy soils and some gravely. Each hectare has 5000 to 6800 plants.
    • Viticulture: Vines are cultivated following a traditional process.
    • Vinification: Vinification is done in a traditional way. The respectful vatting of the fruit takes place between 22 and 24 days. The grape variety Cabernet Sauvignon rests in thermos-regulated tanks, between 26 to 28°C. 15% of the aging is done in French oak barrels, the rest in vats.
