Vinho verde (green wine) is a DOC-protected Portuguese wine from the Minho region in the north-west of Portugal. Its name refers to the freshness of its youth.

Domain and appellation

Ermelinda Freitas

The winery was founded in 1920 by Leonilde Freitas, and continued by his granddaughter Germana Freitas, and later by his great-granddaughter Ermelinda Freitas, to whom Casa Ermelinda Freitas owes its name.

Ermelinda Freitas has its origins in Setubal, but also runs vineyards to the north-east of Braga, producing vinhos verde.
