Our oenologists' opinion
Garnet colour with brick tints. The nose is frank and open, with a bouquet of roasted fruit, liquorice, roasting and hints of grilled pepper. Good balance on a frank, fleshy wine with finesse. Lovely character of candied fruit, fruit in syrup, notes of roasting, liquorice. Finishes with fairly ripe tannins.

Features
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.
Do you know ?
Some attribute the name to Lord Byron, who was visiting France, others to Charles Baudelaire, who was visiting a neighbour of the castle, Odilon Redon, illustrator of Spleen and Ideal.

CHÂTEAU CHASSE SPLEEN
The passion for wine has driven Château Chasse Spleen for more than thirty years, when it was run by Bernadette Villars, daughter of Jacques Merlaut. Since then, the management of the family business has been taken over by her daughters, first Claire and then Céline. The latter has closely linked the Château to another great name, that of Château Camensac, by buying this estate with her uncle Jean Merlaut, already in charge of Château Gruaud Larose.
