Domain and appellation

    Originating from the North of the Rhône Valley, this grape variety, which nearly disappeared, thrives perfectly in the terroirs of the Pays d’Oc.

     

    The Mediterranean climate, its sunshine, and its rocky and dry soils allow it to develop delicate aromas. It produces wines of high quality, both smooth and very fragrant.

     

    For its Viognier Grande Réserve, Maison Castel has selected the best parcels from three departments of the Protected Geographical Indication Pays d’Oc: Hérault and the semi-hills of the Villafranchian terraces for complexity and depth; Gard and its clay-gravel soils, whose earliness brings power and richness; and finally Aude, a clay-limestone terroir that is more late-ripening, providing tension and freshness.

     

    In all these terroirs, Maison Castel observes, analyzes, and tastes the berries from each parcel almost daily to determine the best harvest date.
