Our oenologists' opinion
With its garnet color, this wine offers an open nose, fruity and greedy. On the palate, it has a velvety attack, with silky tannins.
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.
Do you know ?
The name "Black horse" comes from an old legend that this fine, elegant creature would harvest the vineyard itself.
Domain and appellation
Acquired by the Mähler-Besse family in 1937 to complete their already prestigious domains such as Haut-Médoc, Saint-Emilion and Saint-Estèphe.
- Terroir: The microclimate is particularly favorable to the grape Merlot, giving it 's name to the appellation. This 6 hectare estate is based on calcareous soils with grape varieties composed of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.
- Viticulture: Great care is taken to viticulture with green harvesting to ensure maximum ripeness of the fruit. The harvest is done manually with great care.
- Vinification: In 2008, the domain opened a new « chai » that refined the winemaking process so that the wine would properly represent the excellency of the terroir.
