Powerful bouquet

The nose is open, revealing notes of garrigue, undergrowth, cherry stem and kirsch, with a hint of green pepper and menthol.

 

The attack is supple and fairly fleshy, supported by present, relatively fat tannins.

 

The character is expressed through hints of spice, cocoa, menthol and plum gratin.

 

The finish is warm and spicy, with a pleasant persistence of black pepper and slightly spicy notes.

Features

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

Basalt, or bluestone as it is more commonly known here, provided the basic material for the construction of a massive, and historic, railway viaduct stretching across the valley. 80 metres high and almost surreal in appearance

Domain and appellation

  • The Curious Grape

    Superb Syrah, known as Shiraz in Australia, from the Moorabool Valley, 1? hours south-west of Melbourne in Victoria. The state-of-the-art winery is nestled in the heart of the region's historic vineyards. IDL Group was founded in 1966 by Daryl and Nini Sefton and was one of the first vineyards to be replanted in the late 19th century, following the ravages of phylloxera on the vines. The landscape around the vineyard is dotted with alluvial basalt, above a draining limestone terroir that is ideal for growing grapes.
