Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The nose is frank and distinctive, opening with notes of candied blackcurrant, black pepper and herbs, enriched with smoky and roasted touches.

The attack is supple, carried by a beautiful envelope and a masterful balance, before an aromatic finish of violet and black fruit coulis.

The finish, with good persistence, remains distinctive and expressive, marked by the freshness of the fruit and a subtle spicy note.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CAVE SAINT-DÉSIRAT

Established in 1960 on the terraces overlooking the right bank of the Rhône, Cave Saint-Désirat is one of the leading winegrowing estates producing AOP Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, and Vins de Pays d’Ardèche.
The cooperative winery cultivates 430 hectares within the Saint-Joseph appellation.

This cuvée comes from vines planted on steep, hillside slopes, arranged in terraces supported by dry-stone walls known as “chalets”.
The vineyards enjoy a southerly to south-westerly exposure.

Production barely reaches 40 hectolitres per hectare, due to the very shallow granite soils.
