Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and crisp

The nose is initially closed, requiring some time to breathe, then opens up to reveal lovely notes of black cherry, plum and bay leaf, complemented by hints of rosemary and a subtle toasty nuance.

The attack is supple, driven by a lovely tension and a pleasant freshness, with a harmonious balance.

On the palate, it displays a character of red fruits and herbs, with notes of stone fruit and coriander.

The finish is clean, full-bodied and taut, perfectly balanced.

The length is lovely, marked by cherry and fresh coriander, leaving a precise and elegant impression.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • MAISON BENOIT JULES

The Les Cerisiers cuvée is a red wine made entirely from Gamay Saint-Romain, sourced from old vines harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts, followed by a maceration period of around two weeks.

Ageing in concrete vats helps preserve a fruity, spicy and mineral style, characterised by aromas of red berries and lovely freshness. The result is a wine that reflects the specific terroir and is typical of the Côte-Roannaise appellation.

Maison Benoît Jules is a natural wine project led by Romain Paire, formerly of Domaine des Pothiers. Its name pays tribute to his grandfather, Benoît-Jules Paire, a historic winegrower from this small, granite-rich appellation in the southern Loire Valley.

The estate is managed using organic and biodynamic farming methods, with winemaking carried out without additives or with very limited use of sulphur, in a constant quest for the pure expression of the terroir.
