Do you know ?

The duration of the life of a pot still can varie from twenty to thirty years.

During its repair, certain distilleries are afraid it will modify the taste of their whiskey so go as far as to reproduce imperfections (hollows and bumps) of their original pot still.

Domain and appellation

  • Glenlivet

In 1824, George Smith obtained the first ever license for distillation in the region of Speyside. His Single Malt became the reference of Speyside whiskies because of its elegant and fruity style achieved by the use of a particular still pot allowing a slow and controlled distillation. In those days, several distilleries tried to copy its style, even borrowing its name. In 1884, George Smith obtained the right to call its whiskey “THE” Glenlivet, the original whiskey of the Livet valley, Scotland.

    • Manufacturing: A slow and controlled distillation in conical still pots is carried out.
New American tanks are used to rediscover the most typical aging. The whiskey ages for 12 years, the symbolic age of Single Malts.
