Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Get ready to taste an incredible wine. Indeed, as soon as the opening of the bottle, expressive scents are released, recalling the violet, the yellow fruits and spices. The plump attack is followed by a good balance, highlighting ripped tannins. Notes of spiced black fruits are unveiling before tastes of mocha and vanilla. The finish reveals roasted notes.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Château de l'Hospitalet

A field of international prestige, Gérard Bertrand contributes to the radiation of the southern vineyards of France, the world's largest wine-growing area. Orbiting the finest terroirs of Languedoc Roussillon, the Gérard Bertrand wines are part of tradition and innovation.

    • Terroir: Overlooking the Mediterranean by a hundred meters, the vineyard of Château l'Hospitalet has exceptional climatic conditions. The vines are based on calcareous clay soils of Gargasian, rich in fossils and the Mediterranean red soils of Barremian are formed by the bluish gray compact limestone.

    • Vinification: Part of the Syrah is vatted for whole bunches and then vinified in carbonic maceration; whereas the rest and the Mourvèdre are picked and vinified by traditional maceration, from 15 days to three weeks. After running off the tanks and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in new oak barrels for 12 months.
