Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and crisp

Fruity fragrances of quince and persimmon allied to a note of pepper are to explore with this straw-colored wine that has green hints. Full-bodied, it shows a nice balance in mouth where it unveils all of its temper and its freshness. The length, frank and typical, reveals a more mineral side.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Do you know ?

This wine has been tasted by the pope Jean-Paul II in 1996 during his trip in France.

Domain and appellation

  • Château d'Epiré

The Château d’Epiré is a family domain, a real family story inherited since 1875 from generation to generation. Members of the family Bizard are nowadays the most ancient producers of Savennières.

    • Terroir: The vineyard extending on about 12 hectares is located on the highest hills of the Savennières designation, in the town of Epiré. Vines take advantage of its location, bordering the Loire River. The vineyard benefits also from a good sun exposure as hills are orientated toward the south. The soil is made of schist.

    • Wine-making:  The wine ages on dregs in small stainless steel tanks. The cellar is ideally located in a Roman church built in the 12th century that René Bizard, son of the founder Théophile Bizard, bought and transformed. This church is the ideal place for wine because the humidity and the temperature are naturally controlled at all time of the year thanks to its thick walls.
