Our oenologists' opinion
Powerful wine with potential
Its golden yellow color offers an open nose on notes of acacia honey and bergamot. In the mouth this wine has a rich and complex attack, on the fat, and a good balance on honey, grilled almonds and notes of brioches. Spicy and round finish, on sweetness.
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Style ? Dry wines are acidic, lively and fresh while sweet wines are soft and feel round in the mouth.
Do you know ?
Used in the preparation of sweet and mellow wines, the fungus Botrytis cinerea covers the grapes of a "noble rot" to concentrate their sugars and aromas.
Domain and appellation
The Château Bellerive is located in the heart of the Quarts-de-Chaume appellation, on the left bank of the Loire.
- Terroir: Cultivated only with white Chenin, the rows of Chenin are protected from the northerly winds, and face south on the schistous slopes which descend steeply on the Layon. During the autumn nights they are enveloped by the humidity of the river. These conditions are ideal for botrytis (noble rot) to develop on grapes.
- Viticulture: The harvest is manual, a selection is made by successive grades.
- Vinification: Château Bellerive's vinification is traditional with slow fermentation conducted at low temperature in barrels.
