Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The nose is open and full-bodied, with aromas of ripe, roasted fruit, followed by grilled pepper, a hint of cinnamon and burnt horn.

The wine is well-balanced, frank and elegant, with a lovely character marked by aromas of mocha, fur, gingerbread and fatness.

The beautiful structure is underpinned by ripe, supple tannins.

The wine lingers well, leaving a pleasant sensation on the palate.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU MONTLABERT

2019 – A stunning vintage full of contrasts!

    • A very dry and mild winter, leading to an early budburst.

    • A gloomy April, with a frost episode from 12 to 13 April, which affected the Bordeaux vineyards unevenly.

May and June were rainy, yet did not hinder flowering.

    • An exceptionally hot July, followed by a sunny August with occasional rain showers.

September brought warm, sunny weather, ideal to make up for the slow veraison and to harvest grapes at full ripeness.
