Powerful bouquet

Garnet colour with a brick sheen. Clear nose of cocoa and roasting. Opens with aromas of roasted plum, black fruit coulis and hints of herbs. Supple attack, roundness, balance. Frank length, typical character, round tannins, supple, on liquorice and bitter cocoa. Good length. Frank finish on the bouquet, hint of undergrowth.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CAVE DE TAIN

    Founded in 1933 by Louis Gambert de Loche, the Cave de Tain benefits from the expertise of nearly 300 winegrowers spread over about 1000 hectares of vines to produce Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas and Saint-Péray appellations as well as local wines. Terroir : Granite and alluvial terraces with rolled pebbles. Vinification: Hand-picked grapes when fully ripe. Traditional maceration in concrete vats at 28°C with gentle extraction methods: regular pumping over with the use of a marc sprinkler and delestage at the beginning of maceration. The vats are kept at 30°C for several days of post-fermentation maceration. Regular tasting to decide on the date of release. Vatting time of 27 days. Hot racking to carry out the MLF in wood. Ageing: 10% in vats; the rest in 228L Burgundy barrels of different ages: new (32%), 1 wine (7%), 2 wines (21%) and 5 wines (30%)
