Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

The nose is frank and generous, opening with aromas of cherry jelly and strawberry syrup, enhanced by a hint of menthol and a vegetal touch of green pepper.

On the palate, the attack is supple, marked by roundness and beautiful balance.

The character faithfully extends the nose, offering a delicious and charming sensation.

The finish, both round and supple, stretches out with medium persistence and smoothness.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • From clay-limestone as well as sandy and gravelly soils, the Saint-Émilion terroir, combined with a careful cultivation approach, produces wines that are refined, fruit-forward, and consistently expressive year after year.

Since 2010, Hubert de Boüard, oenologist and co-owner of Château Angélus—a neighbour of Cheval Noir—has brought his expertise and know-how to the creation of Cheval Noir Saint-Émilion wines.

Once carefully selected, the various batches are blended and aged with the aim of preserving the fruit character, balance, and roundness.

The strong relationships with partner growers, the meticulous tasting panel, and precise ageing techniques ensure a consistently high quality, respectful of the terroir’s identity and the expectations of wine lovers.
