Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CLOS LA COUTALE

Located in the meandering Lot valley, Clos La Coutale produces wines of international renown. The American magazine Wine Spectator ranked it among the 100 best wines in the world in 2009.

Terroir : Spread over 90 hectares between oceanic and continental influences, with a soil made up of gravel and clay-limestone silica, the vineyard is mainly planted with Malbec (called Auxerrois locally). Its micro-climate and geological formation allow for the production of wines with good ageing potential.
Viticulture: The vines are on average 35 years old with a simple seven-eyed "guyot" pruning. Yields are average with a production of 45 hectolitres per hectare in order to let the fruit express its full intensity.
Vinification: The plots are vinified separately, in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats with pumping over and punching down, then partially matured in oak barrels.
