Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The nose is open and expressive, with notes of mocha, spices, candied pepper and star anise, with a hint of liquorice.

On the palate, the attack is frank and satiny, carried by tension and a lovely texture, with a well-integrated hint of sweetness.

The character is balanced and indulgent.

The finish is full-bodied and silky, developing notes of blackberry coulis, spices and a slight hint of charcoal.

Drink now to enjoy its indulgent character and supple structure.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • FRANK PHÉLAN

Nestled in the heart of Saint-Estèphe, Château Phélan Ségur has majestically overlooked the Gironde estuary since the early 19th century.

Founded by Bernard Phélan, an Irishman by origin, the estate was later developed by his son Frank, and adopted its current name at the beginning of the 20th century.

The property spans 114 hectares, including 70 hectares of vineyards that benefit from the thermal influence of the nearby estuary.

The remaining 44 hectares – a mosaic of parks, woodlands, meadows, streams and ponds – form a carefully preserved biodiversity haven.
