Do you know ?

A single malt whisky refers only to malted barley from a single distillery while a blended scotch is a blend of single malts and grain whiskies.

Domain and appellation

  • Nikka

This whisky has been elaborated by the Japanese group Nikka, owned by Asahi Breweries, that also owns two distilleries. Founded by Masataka Taketsuru, son of a family of sake producers, the one called “Yoichi” has opened in 1934. Located on the Hokkaido Island, 1 km away from the Japan Sea, it produces whiskies with iodic notes. 35 years later, he founded “Miyagikyo”, which is situated on the principal island of Honshu in Sendai.
Thus, it is from the single malts of these two distilleries that the Nikka group elaborate all of its range of Japanese whiskies.
