Do you know ?

A single malt whisky refers only to malted barley from a single distillery while a blended scotch is a blend of single malts and grain whiskies.

Domain and appellation

  • Nikka

It all began in 1918 when Masataka Taketsuru, son of a family of sake producers, was recruited by the company Settsu Shuzo in order to produce the very first Japanese whisky. He leaves then to Scotland to discover the secrets. On his return, he decided to open his own distillery and thus "Yoichi" was born in 1934. 35 years later, he opened his second distillery named Miyagikyo. These two distilleries belong to Japanese group Nikka, also owners of the Asahi Breweries property.
    • Distilleries: Located on the island of Hokkaido, 1km from the Sea of Japan, Yoichi whiskies produced salted and slightly medicinal notes. The Miyagikyo distillery is located on the main island of Honshu in Sendai.

    • Manufacturing: It is from single malts from both distilleries that the Nikka Group develops its range of Japanese whiskies. Masters in the art of blending, the group develops a soft and refined blend.
