Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Deep orange colour with mahogany highlights. The nose is open and spicy, with notes of dried figs, vanilla, caramel and coffee. Round, greedy attack, with caramel and vanilla, lovely notes of ripe bananas and crème brulée. The finish is warm and spicy, with notes of crème caramel, yellow fruit pastes and chilli, medium persistence, typical, well-crafted.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

The Cognac house, Cognac Ferrand, is behind the fascinating Plantation Rum brand. From the outset, the House of Ferrand has enjoyed a privileged relationship with the best distilleries in the Caribbean, to whom it sells casks containing its Cognac.

Domain and appellation

  • PLANTATION RUM

Plantation Rum Black Cask is the result of a unique double ageing process that gives the rum its great complexity, refinement and subtle toasted notes. After distillation in Barbados and Venezuela, the rum is aged in its countries of origin for several years in 200-litre white oak casks. It is then shipped to the south-west of France, where it is matured in small 350-litre Ferrand oak casks that are heavily toasted, giving it delicate smoky notes. A flavoursome, well-balanced rum from Barbados and Venezuela, with elegant notes of fruit and sweet spices.
