Our oenologists' opinion

Well-rounded

Lots of fragrances are released by this beer that has a generous foam. Thus, at the nose, you will be pleased to study its notes of juniper, ginger, apricot and even chocolate. In the mouth, its attack is supple with a light and pleasurable bitter taste. Its caramelized taste is mixing with a touch of spices. Its bitterness is featured, once again, during the finish but in a controlled, perfect and enjoyable balance.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Brasserie d'Orval

The Orval Brewery is located in the Abbey of Orval. It was funded in 1931 to finance the enormous work site of the rebuilding of Orval. It hired employees, including the first master brewer, Pappenheimer who is the creator of the recipe of this beer’s elaboration.
Since then, the Orval beer has become a real reference in the world, popular thanks to its bitterness and fruitiness.

    • Manufacturing: The hop used is locally produced and carefully selected.  To elaborate this beer, the hop is subjected to 3 separated fermentations. The Abbey is located near the Mathilde Fountain that delivers an extremely pure water that the brewery uses to produce the Orval beer.

    • Food and beer pairing: The Oval beer can be tasted with a fish soup or a cheese. It is perfectly paired with a chocolate mousse.
