Powerful bouquet

Its brick color offers a nose of roasted and spicy fruit. On the palate, this wine presents a good balance, full-bodied with roundness. Finale on vanilla, brioche, and pepper.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Located on the Rhône's right bank and spread between the cities of Ampuis, Saint-Cyr sur Rhône and Tupin-Semons, the Côte-Rôtie appellation -the furthest north Rhône Valley appellation- is divided between the “Côte Blonde,” with wines of finesse and elegance, and “Côte Brune,” with more “manly” types of wine. This separation is tied to a very distinct soil diversity. The name would have been issued back in the Middle-Age when Seigneur de Maugiron gave each of his daughters, a blond and a brunette, half of the domain each.

Domain and appellation

  • Domaine Guigal

    The Guigal domain stands among the most prestigious of the Rhône valley. Based in Ampuis, the domain is implemented in Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, and also within some of the best appellations of the meridional Rhône such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape.


    • Terroir: The Côte Blonde terraced vineyard is shaped as a Roman amphitheater and lays on siliceous and limestone soils, in Côte-Brune the soils are rich in iron oxides.

    • Viticulture: The practice of a sustainable agriculture allows the enhancement and preservation of the prestigious terroir. The harvests are hand-picked on steep slopes.


    • Vinification: Ageing of 36 months minimum in oak barrels. 50% new wood.
