Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

The nose is open and expressive, revealing aromas of black fruit coulis, accompanied by notes of spices, fresh tobacco, herbs and garrigue.

The attack is supple and refined, characterised by a lovely balance.

On the palate, it offers a clean, indulgent finish with notes of red fruit coulis, supported by silky tannins.

The finish, refined and distinctive, has medium length.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • L'ORATOIRE DES PAPES

The name of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation is closely linked to the arrival of the popes in the region several centuries ago. In the early 14th century, the papal seat was in Avignon and not in the Vatican, as is the case today.

Of the nine popes who succeeded one another, the most notable is undoubtedly John XXII, to whom we owe the construction of the village’s castle, the Castronovo, which they used as a summer residence. Situated 15 km north of Avignon, at an altitude of 120 m, it was the ideal place to relax, breathe in the fresh air and admire the panoramic view.
