Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

The nose is open and delicious, revealing aromas of salted butter toffee, warm brioche and vanilla wood.

On the palate, the attack is supple, with roundness, body and controlled balance.

The finesse is expressed through a typical character, combining candied exotic fruit and caramel, in a generous body, marked by a nice fatness.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Domain and appellation

  • GÉRARD BERTRAND

    Domaine Cigalus – A vibrant, sun-drenched terroir

Domaine Cigalus enjoys a Mediterranean climate, classified as semi-arid with temperate spring variationwarm and sunny, ideal for achieving early and even ripening across all grape varieties.

The estate is fully cultivated according to Biodynamic principles, embracing a holistic philosophy that respects the interplay between the vine, the soil, and natural cycles.

The low rainfall typical of the region is offset by deep soils, formed by sediment deposits from the Aussou stream, which marks the natural boundary of the property. These soils act as natural reservoirs, retaining winter rainfall over extended periods.

Yet their limited fertility—due to the presence of lightly calcareous sandstone from the Campanian period (late Cretaceous, prior to the formation of the Pyrenees)—encourages berry concentration and imparts a distinct mineral character to the wines.
