The vineyard of Château Haut-Bailly is established on one of the highest ridges on the left bank of the Garonne. The natural slope allows for efficient drainage, reinforced by ditches that are well distributed throughout the property. Rooted on a soil of sand mixed with tertiary gravel, the vineyard forms a mosaic of plots with complementary characteristics where each of the 4 grape varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot - finds its preferred soil.
