Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The nose is open and straightforward, whilst remaining delicate, revealing notes of spice and cocoa.

The attack is straightforward, characterised by lovely structure and great finesse.

On the palate, it offers an enveloping texture, supported by long, generous tannins.

The finish, elegant and full-bodied, reveals a harmonious whole with excellent staying power.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU BATAILLEY

A Pauillac 5th Grand Cru Classé. The château has been owned by the Castéja and Borie-Manoux families since 1924.

Batailley takes its name from the last battle in the Médoc during the Hundred Years’ War (1337–1453), which took place on the site of the château’s vineyards.

The château houses a hall designed by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Paris World’s Fair. Classified in 1855, Château Batailley is now a flagship property of the Borie-Manoux estate.
