Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

Deep coppery colour with bronze highlights. Nice open nose of ripe fruit, candied fruit, peaches in syrup, candied ginger. Notes of honey, beeswax and milk chocolate. Good balance on a melted rum, round, sweetness, nice ripe fruit character, fruits in syrup. Clean and sweet finish.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Tito Cordero, "master blender"of  DUSA since 1988 and creator of the famous Diplomatico, was named in 2011 "World's Rum Blender of the Year at Golden Rum Barrel Awards". 

Domain and appellation

  • Distilerias United S.A.

    Bought in the 2000s by a group of local investors, the DUSA distillery (United Distilerias SA) is located at the foot of the Andes. In 2004 they marketed the famous Diplomatico Reserva.
    • Distillery: The distillery of over 100 years, has kept a certain craftsmanship. With a large stock of aged rums, it develops beautiful complex blends.
    • Manufacturing: Made with 80% sugar cane honey and 20% molasses, this rum is distilled in Pot Still Scotch (cane honey) and column (molasses). It is then aged 12 years in former bourbon casks.
