Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful wine with potential

Fairly dull straw colour. Beautiful open and powerful nose, without concession of peaty, ventresca, burnt notes, then hints of pear, white fruits, full-bodied and full, enveloped. Nice character with peaty, heather and smoky notes. Straight and powerfull, melted with a beautiful finesse.

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

A true concentrate of Islay, Big Peat brings together in one expression the best of this iconic island. Recognised as one of a hundred, Big Peat brings everyone together by reconciling the ardour of Ardbeg, the distinctive character of the rare Port Ellen, the iodine notes of Caol Ila and the spicy notes of Bowmore's refining. Through this range of Remarkable Regional Malts, Douglas Laing has perfectly captured the spirit of an island however indomitable! A dry and smoked peat, available in small batches only.
