The "Tafia" pirates existed in the Isles for centuries, when Father Labat in 1694 devised a more elaborate distillation of the alcohol from sugar canes. Following a few changes, this ancient remedy against fever became what we call today: rum.

Domain and appellation

Père Labat
Located in Grand Bourg on the island of Marie-Galante since 1863, the small Poisson distillery has been making a very famous cane juice rum. It was named Père Labat, as a tribute to the missionary monk who pioneered techniques in making rum.
- Production: Distilled in the purest tradition, cane juice rum from the island of Marie Galante, Père Labat is made from pure sugar cane juice.
