Our oenologists' opinion
Its dark ruby color offers a pretty nose of roasted red fruits and licorice. Vinous.
Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.
Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.
Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.
Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.
Do you know ?
Acquired by the Château Lafite in 1845, the Plateau des Carruades was a set of plots neighboring the Château Lafite. Sold separately in the 19th century, those wines were then embedded to the grand vin as second wine under the names "Moulin des Carruades", and "Carruades de Lafite".
Domain and appellation
Château Lafite Rothschild
Second wine of the 1er Grand Cru Classé Lafite Château Lafite Rothschild, Carruades de Lafite-Rothschild, embeds the full potential of Bordeaux second wines. Standing among the most prestigious, it differs from the grand vin with a more important quantity of merlot in its grape varieties composition.
- Terroir: Spread across 50 hectares, the vineyard lays on a graves soil with deep down limestone layers and is considered one of the left bank best terroir.
- Viticulture: The harvests are hand-picked and led plot-by-plot.
