Do you know ?

The year 1842 was the year Moët & Chandon created Grand Vintage champagnes for the pleasure of English and American connoisseurs looking for more mature wines. Since then, each vintage has reflected the personal vision of the Chef de Cave, as well as his respect for the individuality of each vintage, in each given year.

Domain and appellation

  • MOËT & CHANDON

The House of Moët & Chandon was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a visionary wine merchant, who quickly made it a favourite among Europe’s royal courts.

A few decades later, his grandson Jean-Rémy Moët expanded the international prestige of the House.

It was Jean-Rémy Moët who created the House’s iconic cuvée, Moët Impérial, in honour of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, a regular visitor to the estate.

Legend has it that Napoleon and his troops began the tradition of sabring Moët & Chandon bottles to celebrate their victories.
