Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and light

Beer with an airy, white foam. Golden colour, frank nose, on fresh cereals, small character, supple attack, freshness. Frank lengthening on bitterness, fresh cereals, thirst-quenching.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

Originally created for Mexican workers, this very refreshing and cheap beer quickly seduced Mexico and the rest of the world.

Brewery and region

  • CORONA

Corona extra is a bottom-fermented lager beer, developed by the brewer Modelo in Mexico City, Mexico.
Born in 1925, it is brewed with about 40% rice and very few hops. Lemon peel is added during the brewing process.

Beer is one of the oldest products of civilisation. Historians believe that the Mesopotamians and Sumerians were making beer 10,000 years before Christ. The main raw material for beer is barley. As barley grows more easily than grapes in less favourable climates, countries like Germany and England produced beer rather than wine. Flemish and Dutch merchants introduced hops into the brew, increasing the bitterness. This version was so successful that by the 18th century all beers contained hops. Today, a considerable variety of beers can be found in Europe, especially in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
