Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Garnet colour with some brick tints. Open and frank nose of blueberries, liquorice, then roasting and mocha. Good balance, frank, straightforward, with finesse, full-bodied and fleshy. Nice character that prolongs the aromas of the nose, ripe tannins, quite tight and melted.

    Cabernet Franc

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

The name Chasse-Spleen, acquired in 1863, comes from the Anglo-Saxon trend and is inspired by Baudelaire.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÄTEAU CHASSE SPLEEN

The winter of 2019 is classic, therefore perfect, quite cold and not too wet. February and March were very dry, followed by very heavy rainfall in April. A few nights of frost in May damaged some buds. June was flooded with rain and the flower almost escaped. July was a record hot month. August and early September were more normal. Unfortunately, it was under a threatening sky that the harvest took place. But once again, experience and composure produced a very good wine.
