Powerful bouquet

Dark garnet colour with brick tints. The nose is open, powerful, complex, with notes of fur, caramelised wood, cocoa and red fruit gratin, and a hint of black pepper. Supple attack, satin-like, with ripe, velvety tannins. Character with undergrowth, candied pepper and spices, well structured, with a touch of finesse. The finish is satiny, balanced, powerful, persistent, with red fruit gratin and spices. A lovely wine!

Features

Body The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

CHÂTEAU MONTLABERT
Belle maison de maître en pierre de taille du XVIIIe siècle, le Château Montlabert est entouré d’un parc agrémenté d’arbres centenaires. Ce Saint-Émilion Grand Cru est situé sur la route de Libourne, à proximité immédiate du plateau de Figeac et du lieu-dit « Grâce Dieu ». La famille Castel a acquis ce domaine en 2008.
- Terroir: Le vignoble du château Montlabert s’étend sur 13 hectares, d’un seul tenant, sur des sables anciens, profonds et sablo-graveleux, avec des sous-sols argileux. Le vignoble est composé de 6 200 pieds par hectare. Les vignes ont en moyenne 25 ans, 80% d’entre elles produisant du merlot, les 20% restant produisant du cabernet franc.
- Viticulture: Le travail du vignoble s’effectue depuis plusieurs années en respect de l’environnement, conduite de la vigne selon les pratiques de l’agriculture raisonnée afin d’avoir du raisin de grande qualité à vinifier. Les vendanges sont réalisées parcelle par parcelle.
- Vinification: 20% du merlot et 10% du cabernet sauvignon récoltés passe par l’étape de la saignée. Cette étape est une très courte macération des jus avec la peau des raisins, de façon à obtenir une belle couleur. La fermentation et la macération sont réalisées avec un contrôle des températures dans des cuves en béton ou en inox. Concernant l’élevage, celui-ci se poursuit durant 14 mois environ en barriques de chêne français, dont la moitié est neuve, l’autre moitié ayant déjà accueilli un vin.
