Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

Garnet colour with purple tints. The nose is frank with blackcurrant cream and black fruit coulis, opening up to aromatic, heady notes. Typical attack, greedy, supple, with fairly long tannins, tension and a hint of vegetal. The finish is acidic and crisp with notes of blackcurrant and thyme, and a hint of garrigue.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domaine de Villeneuve has been a family affair for 7 generations. In 2005, Anne-Lise Fraisse joined the family estate and developed her signature. She is moving towards a more environmentally friendly agriculture. From 2019, her children Thibaut and Victorine join her and start the organic conversion.

Domain and appellation

  • DOMAINE DE VILLENEUVE

Located in the north of the Pic Saint Loup appellation, the vines benefit from a particular micro-climate influenced by the Cevennes to the north and the Mediterranean to the south. Clay-limestone soils. The density of the plantation ranges from 4000 to 6500 vines per hectare. Yields average 35 hl per hectare. Manual harvest for the Syrah and Carignan. Grapes are sorted on a sorting belt before vatting. Traditional vinification in a local stone cellar. The Syrah and Carignan are vinified in whole bunches in carbonic acid. The Grenache noir is traditionally vatted. The wine is aged in vats for at least 12 months.
