Domain and appellation

    Excellence has always been the watchword at Château Margaux when making its wines.

     

    As early as the XVIIᵉ century, this requirement led to the creation of a second wine, initially named ‘Château Margaux 2ᵉ vin’, before becoming Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux in 1908.

     

    Over time, the quest for precision intensified, making the selection ever more rigorous. Year after year, this increased rigour has improved the quality of Pavillon Rouge and, by extension, that of a third wine, which was then sold in bulk.

     

    The 2009 vintage, of exceptional quality, marked a turning point. Rather than being sold in bulk, this third wine was matured in barrels with the same care as Pavillon Rouge, before being bottled.
