L'avis de nos oenologues

Powerful bouquet

The nose is frank and distinctive, revealing a range of sweet spices, mocha and candied pepper, with a hint of roasting and cold charcoal.

On the palate, the attack is supple, the wine offers balance, body and a strong character, dominated by roasting and grilled pepper.

The finish is full-bodied and persistent, with roasted spices and a fine intensity.

Caractéristiques

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Le domaine et l'appellation

  • LA CROIX DE MONTLABERT

The 2020 vintage was marked by contrasting weather conditions and an unprecedented health context.

    • A particularly mild winter, with little cold.

    • A rainy spring, bringing strong disease pressure, especially from downy mildew, made even more challenging by the lockdown period.

    • A scorching summer, with dry, warm weather in May and June, which allowed for an early and healthy flowering and veraison.

July and August saw intense heatwaves, but were balanced by well-timed storms that helped preserve the vines.

September offered a beneficial contrast between hot days and cool nights, helping to achieve good ripeness levels.

Harvesting began early—about ten days ahead of average across the vineyard—and was carried out under unique sanitary conditions, requiring great logistical precision and adaptability from all teams.
