Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

Dark ruby colour. Open nose of black fruits au gratin, violets and peppery notes. Good balance on a frank, fleshy wine. Lovely fruit and floral character, hint of grilled pepper, ripe tannins that are already quite supple. Good finish.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

THIERRY GERMAIN

The estate is located south-east of Saumur, in the communes of Chaintres, Varrains and Saumur. Hand-harvested in small crates, the grapes are sorted before being placed in vats on a conveyor belt. Fermentation in stainless steel vats at a temperature of 16 to 22 degrees. End of fermentation at a temperature of 24°C. Vatting period of 8 to 10 days, ageing in stainless steel vats on fine lees without sulphur for 3 to 4 months.
