Our oenologists' opinion


Its deep garnet color introduces a pleasant fresh and exuberant nose of red fruits, cassis, peony, and violet. The palate is balanced, straight, round, and nervous. The tannins are melted and velvety.



Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

The type of oak selected to build a barrel always affect the winemaking process. Its species and origin give the wine different aromas and structures. In France, the grand vins of Bordeaux often select the fine oak of the Tronçais wood in the Allier department.

Domain and appellation

  • Château Haut Rian

    Located in the Bordeaux wine region of Entre-Deux-Mers in the towns of Rions, Béguey and Soulignac, Château Haut-Rian produces white wines under the appellation Entre-deux-Mers, red wines under Côtes de Bordeaux and rosé wines under Bordeaux Rosé.


    • Terroir: The 80 hectares vineyard is spread on sidehills that are oriented south and south-east for a warm and dry climate.  The clay-limestone soil with graves rumps is conducive to the production of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet france grape varieties.


    • Viticulture: The vines selected for the red wine are in average 26 years old and lay on a limestone soil with merlot as the main grape variety.


    • Vinification: In the vat room, the grapes macerate for 24 days and ferment for 12 months in tanks. The wine ages for 6 months in french oak barrels that are renewed by 20% each year.
