Our oenologists' opinion

Dark brick colour with some black highlights. The nose opens up with red fruit gratin, liquorice and burnt horn notes. Good balance on a full-bodied, straightforward wine with a nice elegant character, bouquet of roasted notes, liquorice, hint of grilled pepper, tannins already melted, ready to drink.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD

Second wine of the 1st Grand Cru Classé Lafite Rothschild, Carruades de Lafite-Rothschild, embodies the rich potential of second wines from the Bordeaux region. Considered one of the best second wines, it differs from the grand vin in that it has a higher proportion of Merlot.

Terroir: Spread over 50 hectares, the vineyard lies on a gravelly soil with limestone sub-layers, one of the best terroirs on the left bank.
Viticulture: The grapes are harvested manually and by plot.
Vinification: Fermentation is also carried out on a parcel-by-parcel basis in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats and traditional oak vats.
